Pastor Austin preached from 2 Samuel 16–18 in a sermon titled “The King Who Died for Rebels.” Through the story of David’s rejection and Absalom’s rebellion, the message pointed to two important truths about God’s Anointed King and ultimately points us to Jesus.
The sermon highlighted two certainties. First, the Lord remains with His Anointed. Even when David was rejected, surrounded by enemies, and forced to flee, God remained faithful to His chosen king and continued to work through him.
Second, rebellion against the Lord’s Anointed leads to death. Absalom’s rebellion ultimately brought destruction, showing the serious consequences of rejecting God’s chosen king. Yet David’s response points us toward the greater King, Jesus Christ, who willingly died for His rebellious people. Unlike David, who could only mourn over his son, Jesus gave His life to save sinners who had rebelled against God.
This message reminded the church that God remains faithful to His King and that rebellion against Him has serious consequences. But through Jesus, the greater Anointed King, rebels can receive forgiveness, salvation, and life.
